About Me:
Aloha! I was diagnosed as bi-polar which means that the highs that I used to feel were supposedly not real. But if I want to be normal I have to stay on medication and learn to live without bursting into giggles while feeding the seagulls at the Crossbay bridge. I am currently not practicing massage therapy, except for an hour a week volunteer work at a senior center. But I didn't have the heart to erase the following information. It's hard to let go of my dream of being a Healer, but right now I am focused on healing myself. Thank you for caring enough to read my profile. God bless you.
Kathy Shinsato received her Associates Degree in Massage Therapy at New York College of Health Professions, December 2007. She has a Bachelors in English from Fordham University, Class of 1986, where she also minored in Biology. She is certified in Reiki I, by Reiki Master, Ronnie Mandell, RMT. She has been studying and practicing Amma and Swedish for two years. Her mother is Catholic and her father was born a Buddhist and converted to Southern Baptist. She dreams of the day there will be no religion, and everybody will just love God through their families and professions. A martial artist for 6 years, Kathy now practices yoga 5 mornings each week. In her 20's she devoted 3 years of service and study in a Christian church (The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity), where she cooked, fundraised, gave child-care, and participated in a 7-day fast, living only on prayer and water. It is her belief that massage is a gift she is meant to give to God's children to assist in their healing. She believes we are ALL God's children. During every massage she is open for inspiration for exactly what is needed, whether it be a specific technique, a word of encouragement or just to LISTEN quietly.
1. Absolute purity - no sex without the eternal covenant of marriage. 2. Treat everyone with honor and love 3. Be generous and unselfish with money, but do not incur debt 4. Treat Mother Earth with Aloha (love)
Given with oil or cream on bare skin, Swedish helps improve circulation and moves pain-causing toxins out of the muscle tissue into the blood stream. After a treatment it is recommended to drink plenty of water to help cleanse your system. If you forget, you may experience some minor aches afterwards. If you allow the practitioner to go deeper than your comfort level, this also may result in pain afterwards. So, do not grin and bear it. Massage does not have to hurt to be effective. The most important benefit of massage is RELAXATION. When the body is not at ease, it causes disease. So, simply enjoying this massage will improve your health.
Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Amma Therapy explains that emotions are an energy which can stagnate within the energy channels (meridians) of our body. It is the same principle used in acupuncture, only Amma uses acupressure and circular digital/thumb/palmer pressure along the channels to disperse and release stagnation. This treatment is given through light clothing or a hospital gown. Deep pressure can be applied when needed. It is excellent for those who are highly sensitive, or have chronic pain or medical conditions.
Hawaiian massage begins and ends with prayer, spoken softly and reverently, asking for God's presence. Hawaiians readily accepted Christ when the missionaries arrived in the early 1800's, but the missionaries didn't understand the depth of spirituality inherent in the Hawaiians, who honored the land and lived and breathed Aloha (love). The kahunas (master healers) went underground with their secret knowledge which is now being shared openly today. This massage is sacred. “The Giver” (masseuse) is open to divine guidance and may sing a lullaby or even hula (dance) around the table. The song from her lips creates a healing vibration that penetrates more deeply than the deepest pressure, but in such a gentle way that your muscles forget to resist what it needs - YOU forget to resist and then you are in a blissful state of “the Receiver” of Aloha. It may be given with oil on bare skin, as in Swedish, but it also may be given through light clothing, as in Amma.
Universal Energy (reiki, ki, qi or prana) is channeled through the practitioner's hands to the Receiver with light touch or no touch at all. This is excellent for those who are ticklish or in too much pain to be touched. Simply lay on the table, fully clothed, and focus on your breath with an open mind. As in all modalities, there is a possibility of an emotional release, but in my experience, Reiki has the highest rate of this phenomenon. During an emotional release you may start to cry softly or sob deeply and an unhealed memory may come to you. No matter how long the tears last, when it is released, you will feel so much lighter and happier.
Office Hours: Mon thru Fri, 10 to 3:00. There is a 30 minute or a 60 minute treatment, $40, $80 By appointment only. No house-calls. The treatment area in my home is on the second floor, with a heated table. As a courtesy, a call is expected if you need to cancel. If you are late, it will shorten your treatment. The first session I will take your medical history to be sure there are no contraindications. You must be showered, with no perfume or jewelry. I have the right to refuse treatment if I am uncomfortable with your personal hygiene. Currently, insurance or credit cards are not accepted. Cash or personal check only. Sexually inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The patient has the right to stop treatment at any time and is encouraged to express concerns. |
